About Us
Meet Michael Kravanja: Founder and Captain
Greetings! I'm Michael Kravanja, a Certified USCG licensed captain with a passion for the sea, a knack for culinary excellence, and a deep appreciation for North Carolina's rich history.
About Me: Originally from the Garden State, I decided to make the leap to the serene shores of North Carolina in 2020. Why the move? Well, I'm a firm believer in following one's heart, and mine led me to the Tar Heel State in search of both blue seas and better weather.
Seafarer and Culinary Artist: With a background as a certified USCG licensed captain and a former Italian chef, my journey has been anything but conventional. From navigating the open waters to crafting delectable dishes, I've found a unique blend of passions that defines who I am.
Love for the Outdoors: When I'm not at sea, you'll likely find me immersed in the great outdoors. Whether it's casting a line for a leisurely fishing session, cruising along the coastline, or exploring the hidden gems of North Carolina, my heart belongs to the beauty of nature.
Connecting with North Carolina's History: Beyond the waves, I've developed a profound interest in the history of North Carolina. Exploring the state's cultural richness has been a rewarding journey, and I am committed to sharing the stories that make this region so special.
Our Journey Together: As the founder of Finns Up Charters, my vision is to create experiences that reflect the harmony between the tranquility of the water, the joy of culinary artistry, and the depth of North Carolina's history. Join me on this voyage, where every adventure is seasoned with a dash of passion and a sprinkle of history.
I look forward to sharing the wonders of the Carolina coast with you!
First Mate: Caitlyn Smith
Caitlyn Smith, born and raised in Wilmington, NC, was introduced to boating at a very young age by her family, who always had boats. As a young adult, she began working on commercial fishing boats, engaging in inshore/offshore bottom fishing. Caitlyn has experience setting nets for spots, trout, and pigfish, as well as working shellfishing for clams, oysters, conch, and crabs.
Caitlyn loves being on the water because it brings her a sense of relaxation and stress relief, whether cruising or fishing. Each day on the water is unique and ever-changing, from the sunrises to sunsets and the seasonal wildlife, with dolphins being her personal favorite.
She is a valuable addition to our team, and we are thrilled to have her aboard to enhance our charter experiences even further.
